Locum Tenens Staffing for Facilities

How locum staffing services help meet your organization's needs.

The American healthcare market has expanded dramatically with demand for physicians and advanced partitioners outpacing supply in many areas. Healthcare organizations are facing increased pressure to find and retain full-time staff, while physician retirements and work-related burnout has led to a shrinking candidate pool.

This shortage, along with an aging population and the subsequent increased demand for medical care services, has led to the growth of the locum tenens industry. Locum tenens helps healthcare facilities fill their staffing needs with minimal disruptions to their rotations and budget.

Below are some of the benefits your facility can expect when you hire a locum tenens physician or advanced practitioner. Looking to learn more about how locum tenens fits into your staffing mix? Connect with us.

Help your staff.

Hiring even a single locums provider can significantly lighten the patient load on your staff, which can provide relief from long hours spent on-call duty and lower the risk of physician burnout

Staff stay longer in jobs where they feel valued. Securing additional coverage to help with higher patient loads or to cover leave demonstrates that your facility values its physicians and prioritizes their needs.

Incorporating locums into your strategic staffing plans adds support to staff through busy periods and is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to their success. This can help improve morale and lead to an increase in employee satisfaction

Help your patients.

It can be difficult to provide the full range of care needed by your facility’s local population. By bringing in a locums physician or advanced practitioner, you can add crucial specialties to your facility’s offerings and expand the services you can offer.

When your staff need to take time off, patients can face delayed procedures, rescheduled appointments, and gaps in treatment. Hiring coverage through locum tenens staffing ensures that your patients will receive the care they need with minimal disruption while allowing you to continue to bill for services.

Adding a locums physician or advanced practitioner to your staff can reduce wait times for appointments, which can increase patient satisfaction, decrease provider load, and decrease the likelihood that they will seek care at another facility.

Help your bottom line.

Locum tenens staffing is a great way to generate additional revenue, particularly if it enhances the services you are able to offer. Locums can also help your staff see more patients, increasing your daily revenue numbers

In many cases, it can be more economical to leverage locums to cover overtime than using full-time staff. Using locum tenens staff can reduce your facility’s overtime costs and save you money.

Hiring and onboarding a new physician often takes six months or more, meaning your facility loses thousands of dollars in revenue until the role gets filled. Bringing on a locums physician or advanced practitioner can help fill that gap and ensure patient coverage.

Hiring is an expensive and time-consuming process, and removing a physician that is a bad fit can be difficult. Incorporating locums into your staffing mix allows you to determine a good fit for your organization both culturally and operationally.
