Locums in healthcare.

Locum tenens is a Latin term meaning “to hold the place or substitute for another person.” In the medical industry, this term is specifically referencing a physician or advanced practitioner who temporarily works for a healthcare organization when there is a gap in care. The benefits for physicians and advanced practitioners are almost endless, but how would staffing locum tenens benefit a facility like yours? There may be more perks for your organization having locums in healthcare than you think.

Avoid burnout through locums.

Burnout among healthcare professionals is a public health crisis. Burnout doesn’t just affect staff members, it can affect your organization as well. It may increase mistakes and the possibility of a malpractice suit. It may also diminish the patient experience and increase the risk of moral injury among your staff. What’s an easy way to combat this crisis? Consider locum tenens professionals. Locums physicians and advanced practitioners can alleviate the stress on your permanent staff by filling gaps in care and allowing employees to take the appropriate amount of time off.

Locum tenens may save on costs.

If you break down the numbers, locum tenens professionals are often more cost effective than hiring a permanent physician or advanced practitioner. Your organization can meet demand for patient appointments rather than diverting them to competing facilities. This allows you to increase revenue and improve patient experiences. If you hire a permanent physician, you may end up spending thousands in signing bonuses. You can skip that altogether when you use locum tenens physicians and advanced practitioners with no long-term commitment.

Locums increase patient satisfaction.

Using locum tenens physicians and advanced practitioners can prevent cancelled appointments after an unexpected physician absence. This way, patients won’t be inconvenienced with a rescheduled appointment. With locums, you won’t have to stress about diverting patients or overloading your permanent staff. Instead, these patients are getting the care and time with a physician or advanced practitioner they need. This means you can keep your commitments to your patients and protect your reputation as a care provider.

More than 52,000 physicians work locum tenens annually and help organizations quickly fill gaps in care. Jackson and Coker has a pool of physicians and advanced practitioners in over 50 specialties and a team of recruiters who are dedicated to getting the right physicians and advanced practitioners to the right organizations.

Project the revenue locum tenens staffing can bring your facility.
